About Simon

I came to tarot relatively late in life but, by now, I have been reading tarot for decades. I use tarot for divination and reflection as part of my regular spiritual practice, alongside kabbalistic angelic magick. While I use several divination methods for myself, I only use tarot with clients. The 78 cards in a tarot deck encompass all of human experience and when you lay the cards down in a reading you are accessing a book of infinite wisdom. For working with a client, I find there is little to compare to the tarot. Spending my very early childhood in a haunted house being terrified, with my parents being religious and telling me of their experiences in that house, I have always been open to the unusual. I started with tarot out of curiosity but as my reading skills developed, I became aware that my intuition was also being strengthened. Through using the tarot over many years, I found a new sense of spirituality. My practice of angelic magick and my study of the 50 plus years of Near-Death Experience research has shown me that we are all connected. I firmly believe that when you focus on a tarot reading for someone who sincerely wants to understand and clarity, you can connect with that person. The cards can show you, most of the time, what is going on in their life.

What do you like most about giving readings to clients?

You can really see when a reading helps illuminate what is going on in a person's life. The cards actually help a client to understand their situation and to see the possibilities that lie ahead. I have seen clients become empowered through the tarot readings I have given them. This has given them the courage and strength to move forwards from difficult situations. Alternatively, the cards have shown what problems exist and what action may need to be considered which brings relief because clients know what they need to do. Tarot can give people struggling with a difficult decision or challenge the agency to act and improve their wellbeing and quality of life. That is immensely satisfying to me.

How would you say you are typical of your star sign?

I am both a Leo Sun and a Leo Moon. I find that I have to step in if I see someone struggling in a difficult situation or if someone is being abused or bullied. When I want to achieve something truly important, I put all my focus, drive and will power into that goal. At work, and in my private life, I find I don't mind being the centre of attention - depending on the situation of course. All of this is Leo energy. I am Libra rising and I can find myself occasionally overthinking and considering things for too long. So, definitely a Libra influence although maybe not the best aspects!

When do you remember being first aware of your gift?

I consider myself intuitive rather than having one of the Clairs (Clairvoyant etc), but I can recall always having hunches and sudden ideas to do particular things or go to certain places. Many times, this has led to delightful discoveries. This intuition has only become stronger through regularly using tarot and practicing magick. It was one of these intuitive decisions that actually led to me buying my very first tarot deck. I can recall thinking that tarot might be something useful and important in my life. It has led to the most incredible and important changes in myself and how I view life and our purpose in life. This strong sense of intuition has also helped me save the life of my mother. I had an intuitive sense that she was in danger. I found her climbing a tall step ladder to take down some curtains; she lost her balance and I was there to slow her fall.

What is your most memorable experience with a client?

When I worked in the NHS (the UK National Health Service) I became close friends with one of the department team leads, a senior dietician. She confided in me that she felt miserable trapped in her current role and dealing with her manager and was finding it impossible to see how she could move on. She had been stuck in the same role for 10 years. I offered her a tarot reading after work to see if that could help her discover what was holding her back and what her possibilities were. As we went through the reading, the cards clearly highlighted all her problems and showed her that, if she was willing to put all her energy into looking for an alternative role, she had the possibility of succeeding and getting something she would truly enjoy. 6 weeks later I received an email from her where she thanked me for the reading which had given her the courage to find a more rewarding role. She not only found a role working in the community which she loved, it was also a promotion, and she was now the head of the dietician department. A great outcome for her and showed me just how valuable a tarot reading could be.

What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?

I have a background as an occupational therapist which has given me a strong grounding in ethics and boundaries. Through being an OT, I also have extensive experience of actively listening to and working with people in challenging and stressful situations. This has given me the ability to cope with the emotional demands that being a tarot reader can bring: you can find yourself reading for people who are experiencing very difficult circumstances, and you need to know how to respond and manage appropriately at these times. I bring all this experience into my tarot readings. I like to create a safe, non-judgemental space where my clients can feel comfortable and where we can explore their question and issues through the cards. In my many years of experience as an OT and tarot reader I have heard practically everything you can imagine so I would like to believe my clients can discuss their issues with me knowing I will treat them seriously and with respect.

What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?

General readings can provide very good insight, but the strongest readings always seem to happen when the client has something they really need to know. So, it can be helpful to have a specific question in mind. The clearer the question, the clearer the answers tend to be. Even if someone only wants a general reading, that reading tends to pick up on aspects of the client's life that may actually be important. If you have one of these more general readings, be prepared to pay attention if the message of the cards appears to refer to a particular aspect of your life; that aspect may be more important than you believe. Lastly, tarot can show you what is most likely, most probably, going to happen and even then, that may require action. So, yes/no questions don't usually give clear answers. It's more helpful to think about what you need to know or understand about how something may develop when thinking about your question.
