Hi I'm Lucy and I'd like to tell you how I started reading Tarot. It was a dark and stormy night.... No, no. It was a wet weekend and I'd decided to have a look at cards in Mysteries, a shop in Covent Garden. I found there was only one pack I liked: the Aquarian pack. So I bought it and spent the rest of the weekend reading up on how to work with them. But I was getting all the same answers, and then I realised I should try to ask a different kind of question. Wow. The answer was spot on. That was over twenty years ago. Since then I've always consulted the Tarot before making any big decisions. Once I was going on a tour of the States with my band and asked how it would go. The Tarot said we'd argue but be very well received. I told the others we were going to argue, hoping to head it off, but sadly it didn't work. A few years later I met the love of my life, but he lived on the Welsh borders and I couldn't imagine leaving London. I asked the Tarot what I should do. Every day, for two weeks, I shuffled and cut the cards. I was trying to get a different answer, but there was no escape: every single time it was the four of wands - for me, the happy home card - so I gave in and succumbed to the happiest years of my life.
What do you like most about giving readings to clients?
It is such a privilege to give someone a reading, because they are letting you into the most secret parts of their life and trusting you to tell them the truth. It is like being with an old friend, seen through the mask of the cards, even though I can't see the client, or know everything about them. It is a very strange sensation and a very fulfilling one.
How would you say you are typical of your star sign?
I'm an Aquarian and very typical of my sign. I'm a bit of a maverick, don't like fitting into the round hole society creates for us. My chief concern is to behave in a compassionate way and offer people support and kindness. I set up an organisation in my town to help people through difficult times, and ran it 24/7 for six years. Creatively, I play the piano - mostly classical, Debussy, Chopin, although I love Enrico Morricone. Also I write and have had several plays performed. Currently I'm working on a crime novel.
When do you remember being first aware of your gift?
I first realised on that wet weekend I had something of a gift. Having asked lots of questions about my career and relationship, which were bound up tightly together, I asked about my family ties, and immediately had a very different set of cards which accurately stated the position. This was quite scary in the beginning. Then I began reading for friends, but it was when a friend introduced me to someone I didn't know who asked for a reading that I was really surprised. I asked her not to reveal the question so that I could be sure I was reading the cards properly and not relying on any clues she might be giving off, such as her age, how she was dressed, etc. We were both astonished at how clearly I could picture her situation and her friend was able to offer her the help and support she needed to improve things.
What is your most memorable experience with a client?
This has to be on New Year’s Eve 1996, when we had a party and my then husband decided to announce at around 10pm that I read Tarot. Out of all the readings I did one stood out. For this man there was a really bright future involving travelling and settling in another country.
We didn’t see him for a few weeks and then one day there was a knock at the door and he was there, smiling. He told us his plans to move to Holland had all worked out, even though he had felt they wouldn’t. I was flat broke at the time, and went out to buy a spit roast chicken on tick to celebrate.
What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?
I have worked extensively as a teacher with all ages, in the UK and Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Hong Kong and Alaska. My teaching role has been mainly in music but also in general primary and lower secondary school mainstream. Because I have worked with people in difficult situations, I have developed a way of being able to deliver information in a sensitive manner. I have knowledge of the tenets of cultures such as Islam and Christianity, enabling me to see clients' questions in a context which is significant for them. I have also trained as a Samaritan.
What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?
The most important thing to consider is that the clearer they can put the question, the clearer the answer will be. I ask the client not to tell me the question so I can focus on the cards. This means they can decide on what I tell them about the past, whether it is right, and then they can have confidence I will be able to tell them something about the future.
I had a reading with her in November 2019 and some of what she was true, I was in a new job and she said soon it will be bad news and will be disappointed, she was right about that job, would like to have another reading with her hopefully soon
