What do you like most about giving readings to clients?

Helping people to understand what is going on around them and taking the fear of the unknown and the Tarot away; so that they can enjoy their reading. I find that there is so much nonsense talked about the Tarot that some people are really apprehensive about seeking guidance. Also, I like the interaction between reading and the client and being able to build up a picture across the cards rather than just interpreting each card in isolation. Some readings become a real journey of discovery and definitely have a story line.

How would you say you are typical of your star sign?

Virgo: I like to be organised, in my own way! Very observant and analytical & I try not to be too critical (of myself more than others) and am good with my hands around the house and garden (we have an allotment and I do the digging).

I love cooking and am terribly organised in the kitchen, I clean and wash up as I go!!! I enjoy walking and thinking – daydreaming apparently! I like fishing & Sailing, when I can get an invite. I am a good listener and enjoy teaching, in its widest sense and passing on knowledge. Finally, I am (of course!) smart, debonair, well groomed etc. Well I would say that wouldn’t I? A typical Virgo!

When do you remember being first aware of your gift?

My Granny was an astrologer and Tarot reader and I was aware from an early age that I seemed to recognise places I had not been to before, sometimes I would see things in dreams months before they happened and then have flash backs. It got quite confusing at one stage because I was not sure if something had happened or was to happen and it was at this time I started to see ghosts and or feel them. She told me not to worry about them and it was the Celt in me.

I have always had a very good sixth sense (intuition) which definitely saved my life on a number of occasions. Spirit Guide or Guardian Angel, I don’t know? But they certainly worked overtime on occasions! I just came to accept that I sometime knew or was told something was to happen and I shouldn’t hang around or do whatever I was about to do! Also, I learnt not to tell people as it tended to freak them out. About 12 years ago I had a very difficult time in my life and just did not know what to do with myself and suddenly found myself looking at an A board offering Tarot readings; I went in spent money I could ill afford on a reading which opened my eyes to how others saw me and what was going on around me. So locked in my own world and problems I had lost the plot! As a result I bought a pack of cards and started to learn to read the Tarot and to get back in touch with my intuition and soon found myself helping others.

What is your most memorable experience with a client?

I have had a few, the first was when a friend of my wife asked for a reading, which surprised me, since she and her husband had been very disparaging about Tarot. She had reached a cross roads in her life and wanted to know which of 4 career path options she should take. We went through each and what they had to offer. She then wanted me to tell her which to take! I refused as it was up to her, it was her life and she must be responsible for her decisions. She got very angry with me and stormed off. I didn’t see her for six months and when we bumped into each other at a party she asked me if I knew which path she had taken, I told her I did and which one it had been and she confirmed I was correct. She also told me that by refusing to tell her what to do she took control of her future by choosing the option that best suited her rather than others. Up until then she had always put herself second and allowed others to rule her life. She had finally summoned up the courage to take control. The reading had given her insight to herself and how unhappy she was and how it was up to her to do something about it!

The other was for a neighbour, I had done a reading about a year ago in which she was as quiet as the proverbial church mouse and I could tell that as soon as I had started she wanted me gone! I just couldn’t get any real response from her at all. She rarely speaks to me at the best of times, a younger generation and different politics! But the other day she leapt out of her car and rushed up to me and said “I just had to tell you that everything you told me in the reading has come true, I didn’t really believe it at the time, thank you. I have just been offered the promotion you talked about.” It quite made my day, especially as it came from such unexpected quarter.

In many ways all my readings are memorable because someone has given me an insight to their lives and trusted me to read their cards and interpret the Tarot for them.

What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?

I spent 20 years in the Army, living much of it abroad in Europe and North America. Several operational tours of duty and one war gives you a tremendous insight to yourself and others and how we cope with the stress and strains of life and death, relationships – personal and corporate and change. I have been out of the Army for 16 years now and in that time spent 12 years as a Councillor for one of the most rural areas of England, although bizarrely representing a Market Town with a rich industrial past and present. I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, cultural, religious, economic and political (most politicians in my experience spend more time working together than against each other).

I have worked for myself and for others. Taken my knocks both in health, wealth and heart and survived to fight another day! Professionally I am a project manager and technical trainer; although I seem to have done a lot of sales work too; most recently I have been working in logistics for a well known national company as a depot manager. Most of my working life has been about people and resolving problems or helping and enabling others to solve their own problems! So I have a rich wealth of life experience to help me interpret the cards and understand the kind of situations people find themselves in.

What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?

Firstly set aside some time, so that you know you will get the most out of your reading. Think about what it is you want to know. If you have a particular issue you want advice about, tell me, so we can select the most appropriate spread for you. Career, relationships/love, choices, weekly forecast etc...
If it’s your first time go for a general reading to get a feel for the Tarot and its relevants to you and what is happening around you. There is nothing to fear, there may be Death, The Devil and Swords in the pack but these are illustrations and not to be taken literally, I will interpret them for you and what their message means within the context of your reading!
If you feel a bit lost and don’t know where you are or what you are doing, a more general reading is probably best, as the cards will identify what is happening around you and some spreads allow you to explore the issues in greater depth. So, it is important to discuss with me which is the best spread for you and your circumstances.
Also, what you are thinking about is not always what you are thinking subconsciously and the cards will pick up on what is really bothering you but you may be ignoring or suppressing the issue. So don’t be surprised if these hidden items come to the surface.
Finally, nothing is set in stone in a reading; forewarned is forearmed and you can take control of events, where necessary, if you heed the Tarot’s advice.
