Unproductive Habits You Need To Quit

It’s super easy to find yourself caught up in the midst of unproductive habits that drain you of your energy. These negative habits usually impact on your efficiency, productivity and ability to move forward in life. Because these habits also keep you in your comfort zone, it can sometimes be difficult to identify the cause of your problems.

Letting go of your perceived need to do things in the same way that you have grown accustomed to doing them, enables you to make a few positive lifestyle changes that are highly beneficial to your health, wealth and wellbeing. If you’re tired of being stuck in a rut, now is the time to change your unproductive daily habits.

Hitting the snooze button

The longer you stay in bed in the morning, the more time it will take you to rev up your energy for the day ahead. Not everyone is a morning person who rises with the larks. Some people need to slowly ease into the day.

Hitting the snooze button, instead of getting up and out of bed, is simply delaying the inevitable and negatively impacting on your mood and vibe. If you are tired when you wake up, make an effort to go to bed earlier, so that you get enough sleep and wake up feeling energised and refreshed. And get yourself an alarm clock that doesn’t have a snooze option.

Constant cyber connection

Being constantly plugged into your mobile phone, laptop, Facebook, social media etc. is zapping you of energy and productivity. Allowing yourself to be distracted, so that you can check your Inbox, friend requests etc, is eating away at the opportunities that you have to do other and more worthwhile things.

Habitually checking your mobile devices serves no purpose at all. Break the cyber cycle by scheduling time out every day. Limit your constant checking by completely unplugging yourself after office hours, or restrict your checking time to 10 minutes every hour or two. Once you’ve checked, shut down and disconnect so that you’re not tempted to take a sneaky peek.

Relying on caffeine

When your body is lacking in natural energy it’s easy to reach for the coffee, in order to perk yourself up. Before you know it, you’ve downed 5-6 caffeinated drinks, and not a sip of water has passed your lips. Swapping your morning cup of java for a mug of hot water and lemon juice is an excellent and healthy way to start your day.

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. Water flushes out toxins from the kidneys and liver, keeps your brain alert, and improves the appearance of the skin. If you’re not keen on the taste, add fruit or herbal infusions to your daily recommended 8 glasses of water.

You are what you eat

It’s easy to adopt a lazy attitude to diet and nutrition, particularly when you have a busy lifestyle. Living off processed and junk food is negatively impacting on your physical and mental health. Eating calorific high fat and stodgy foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner is slowing down your energy levels and extending the afternoon slump.

When your diet is packed full of junk food you simply don’t have the energy, or inclination, to be efficient or productive. Swap your greasy meals for healthy options that boost your energy and vitality. Choose healthy protein, carbs and fats, and eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. If you don’t want to give up your junk food treats, limit these to just one day per week.

Collecting ‘stuff’

To have an energised mindset it’s essential that you lighten your load. This means clearing away the clutter in your life. Streamlining your possessions, and having a good clear out, will help to boost your energy levels, creativity and productivity. If you presently have too much mess to tackle in one go, start off by clearing stuff for an hour each day. Quit hoarding and collecting, and become more productive.
