My name is SimonM and I'm an intuitive, empathic tarot reader. I've been reading professionally for about five years, but have been fascinated by tarot for most of my life. My maternal grandmother was my first experience of it, and I've always treasured the memories of sitting with her when I was little and her explaining the cards to me, showing me the pictures, pointing out significant details. Whenever I do a reading now I can feel her kindness and wisdom beside me, guiding me.
What do you like most about giving readings to clients?
I love listening to people about their lives and finding ways of helping through tarot. I love the variety of experiences and questions people have and the challenge of exploring how the cards can help guide and counsel, offer strength and encouragement.
How would you say you are typical of your star sign?
I'm very determined. I'm passionate about what I do. I demand the best from myself.
When do you remember being first aware of your gift?
My grandma used to show me tarot cards when I was little, and she'd explain the pictures and what they meant. I would do little readings for her and she'd tell me how I could do it better. Once I was doing a reading for her, aged about five, and I suddenly found I was telling her something about her past, about a figure in her past, a woman, who had been wise and strong and who she still looked to for guidance. She explained that her mother had been a reader and that she sometimes still spoke to her in spirit when she wasn't sure what a reading meant. I think we were both a bit surprised.
What is your most memorable experience with a client?
A young man came for a reading. He was anxious, silent. I tried to put him at ease, and told him what the cards were telling me about his life. He sat through the entire reading in silence, and then at the end he told me how accurate everything had been, how the 'sense of displacement' I'd talked about was exactly how he'd felt as a child who been brought up partly in care, how he'd never felt 'at home', how my comments about struggles in the past with questions about who he was and where he fitted in echoed precisely his own thoughts, how I'd shown him to himself in a way no-one else ever had. The cards had been insistent that better things were to come, that he would 'find himself', find his power, through art and creativity - he told me he had started making short art films on youtube, and how important these were to him, how he was starting to think about a career in film-making. It was a privilege to sit with him as he 'opened up', and as he left he said, 'Everything's clearer now.' He emails me from time to time, he's doing well and has enrolled in a film-studies course.
What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?
I've always been fascinated by tarot, but over the last five years or so I've been doing it more purposefully. I've worked professionally in a tarot shop, and gained huge experience from that. I try always to be empathic, to understand what the client is asking and to give them the best answers I can. Intuition is a key part of the process, finding the way in which the cards connect to the client, how what they're telling me relates to the client's own unique, individual story, how best I can help.
What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?
Just to be open to the process, to allow the cards to sing their ancient songs and to receive their message in a spirit of optimism and hope. Tarot is a kind and very human practice, and all it requires is that the client allow the story to be told. When the client has a specific question, I'd always advise meditating deeply on it before the reading so that it can be the sole focus of attention. For a general reading, it's helpful to be unrushed and uninterrupted, so setting aside a little pocket of time away from everything else is a good strategy, so you can clear you mind from everyday business and worries.
